HELP PLEASE: Procuring to a Minor (NE) - Legal Help

Hello,

Yesterday I was at a sporting event with a friend who is a minor and his girlfriend. During the final intermission of the sporting event I (21+) purchased a beer and brought it back to our seats where the 3 of us were sitting. Due to ease of access I climbed (more like stepped) over 2-3 rows of bleacher-style/fold up, event venue, seats. While climbing over the last few seats I couldn't help but spill a little of my beer. My (<21) friend helped me out and grabbed/guided the beer to the floor in front of my seat as I made my way over the final row of seats. Since it was the final intermission of the sporting event I went back for a 2nd beer assuming the concession stands were near closing (a common procedure at a lot of sporting events), leaving my first beer at my seat. I would have purchased two beers at once but with fumbling around with money, a ticket, my car keys, cell phone, etc. I decided to purchase one at a time. Apparently while I was getting the second beer my friend had a sip of the first beer. Upon returning to my seat after purchasing the second beer I was hauled of by police. I was arrested at the event venue by our college's campus police and taken to the police station where I underwent a full booking for procuring to a minor (I believe this is a class I misdemeanor in Nebraska). To be clear, the officers who initially detained us were city police, while the officers who took us from the event venue to the police station were college campus police. During our detention at the event venue, my friend was breathalized and blew a 0.000, he received a minor in possession (MIP). Both of the beers they confiscated we're 99.9% full. We are both students at the university but I don't believe the event venue is on the college campus (it is close) as it is illegal to sell alcohol on our college campus (dry campus). After sitting in a cell for a few hours my bail was posted. In conclusion, what am I looking at in terms of a criminal record, and so forth? I have zero criminal background (just a few traffic violations for which I have taken driving classes to erase), I'm a 3.46 GPA student who just transfered to this university last fall from a community college where I had a similar (if not better) GPA. I'm a college athlete, who goes to school full time and works part time. Needless to say I can't help but feel like I've completely ruined my life. Is there anything unjust about the legal process above? Should I take it to court? Is diversion the best option? How long will this procuring to a minor charge be on my criminal record if I take diversion, take it to court, get a plea bargain, etc? Any help, advice or information is very much appreciated. Thanks for your time.
